Talk:Arms (disambiguation)
Given the pluralisation policy, shouldn't this page be removed and be placed at arm? jheijmans
- No, that would be silly. Besides the word "arm" has another valid meaning. --maveric149
Well, according to my knowledge of the English (and my dictionary, too) - though I'm not a native speaker - an arm is either the thing to which my hand is attached or a weapon, as in firearm. And arms is the plural form of this word. Right? So then the disambiguation should be at arm, not here. jheijmans
Strict disambiguation like that really should be avoided whenever possible. The word arm (note singular) is almost always used by native speakers of English to refer to the body part. The word arms (note plural) is quite often used in English to refer to either more than one of the body part or to weapons (at least in American English). Therefore the ambiguity is with the word arms and not arm. A link to weapon at the bottom of arm will be more than enough. I would suggest the wording: Other uses of this term include: weapon. Cheers! --maveric149
Ah, okay. But since wikipedia entries normally aren't about things in plural, shouldn't arms be mainly about the weapons, and refering to the body part in the bottom? Oh well, this page has no real content anyway... jheijmans
- I think arms is at least nominally OK as a disambiguation page since it is both ambiguous and plural. Any discussion about weapons should be at weapon. Seems that the original author of this disambiguation page listed the terms in alphabetical order. It would make just as much sense to me switch the order so that weapon is listed first on the arms page. Having this page at all is kinda questionable BTW -- if a user wants to link the body part and makes an edit link correctly, they will link to the singular of arm and wouldn't end up here in the first place. I would have simply redirected arms to weapon and have been done with it, but that's just me. Oh well... --maveric149, Monday, May 27, 2002
Moved Arms to Arm (disambiguation)
[edit]Need to disambiguate the proper noun Arm, referring to η Capricorni, which doesn't make sense to have it under arms, since it's not pluralisable. -- Ketil Trout 04:49, 8 May 2006 (UTC)
Now at Arms (disambiguation) and pointing to Arms, which as it turns out is plurable. bd2412 T 06:49, 3 July 2009 (UTC)
