Edit warring to redefine "alumnus"
[edit]An unregistered editor is edit warring to insist that "alumni" only refers to people who graduated from an institution. As our article on this very word points out, that is not how the word is defined in most instances although it's a common understanding. If he or she believes that our definition is wrong, he or she is welcome to open a discussion in the appropriate place.
Alternatively, if he or she believes that the alumnus that he or she removing needs to have a clarification added to indicate that he did not graduate then that's totally fine. It's fairly common to do that in articles; I think I've seen something like "(attended but did not graduate)" and similar language used in many articles. If there are more helpful details about the circumstances and situation (e.g., "transferred to __ after __ semesters") then that can also be helpful for readers.
What he or she is not welcome to do is impose an idiosyncratic definition of this word, different from how it's used in other articles in this encyclopedia, in this one article. He or she is not welcome to try to change the definition by editing this one article and only using edit summaries. And he or she is definitely not welcome to remove this person from the article simply because he or she disagrees with or disapproves of this person. ElKevbo (talk) 04:09, 16 December 2020 (UTC)
