List of windstorms moved to separate page
[edit]List was becoming rather dominant and generally think the main article should be about the phenomena, rather than listing instances of it. Hopefully a new page will be better to add noteworthy storms without having to list all on the main article. The reduced section on notable storms may reflect personal bias, please feel free to re-add notable storms you think should be included (reduced format preferred)--Lacunae (talk) 16:33, 2 December 2011 (UTC)
- Agreed. I added dashes instead of full stops. ----Bruvtakesover (talk!) 21:57, 2 December 2011 (UTC)
I dislike the re-tabulisation of the notable storms on this page. The point in moving the tables to List of European windstorms was so this page would not be dominated by tables, and so sortable tables could be placed there. I'm happy to leave it for now, however if we return to a situation where every storm is added here, I will probably seek agreement to revert to a short bulleted list of only the most widely known storms.Lacunae (talk) 15:26, 25 October 2012 (UTC)
- de-tabulated, because it takes up less space, I'm unconvinced the damage numbers can be meaningfully populated from freely available material, and I think the bulleted list allows more flexibility to group storms in clusters/series.Lacunae (talk) 02:07, 28 February 2013 (UTC)
Removal of Balaclava storm
[edit]I removed this not because it wasn't a notable and important event, but that this page is for those storms which reach Europe over the Atlantic Ocean. Hopefully it can be added to a page on mediterranean (black sea) cyclogenesis.Lacunae (talk) 17:52, 20 July 2015 (UTC)
UK & Ireland 2015-16 storms Suggestion
[edit]As some may know, this season the UK and IRL Met Offices decided to name storms jointly as a pilot project. Thus, despite in years prior having major storms listed here, this article is now missing all, including notable UK & IRL storms. I believe either a note should be included in the table or a link directly to the article versus the only note being a see also link overlooked by some. Any thoughts how to add info to this article's table without outright duplication? NJA (t/c) 07:52, 9 February 2016 (UTC)
- I'm not entirely clear on what you're proposing. The brief list on the European windstorm page is only a brief list of the most major of these storms, and I'm not convinced any of the named 2015/16 storms have had severe enough impact to be listed on this page. The named storms of 2015/16 are included on the page list of European windstorms, though so far none have exceeded the criteria of Perils http://www.perils.org/web/news/event-investigations.html which is generally the (third party) cut-off point used to assess the notability of a storm for the European winstorm pages. The UKMO/Met Eireann named storms are overlapping with the concept of European windstorms, but so far we've yet to work out how to integrate the UK/Met Eireann naming (warning) scheme with windstorm articles and wider European impacts.Lacunae (talk) 15:10, 9 February 2016 (UTC)
- This isn't the article to post a list of European windstorms. A few should only be included as a case study, instead of suffering from recentism. The article List of European windstorms is perhaps what you were referring to, which does indeed exclude all UK/Ireland named storms in any detail. I'm sure they could be included, however. At the very least, a wikilink to the UK/Ireland "season" would be of benefit. Apparently the season ends in less than three weeks time, so windstorms affecting the British Isles will have to go by some other name after that. Jolly Ω Janner 19:50, 11 February 2016 (UTC)
