Criticisms
[edit]This is a good idea, because through the media lately, and for the past several years, TLC has been facing mounting criticism over the use of reality TV shows to fill time -- and particularly, what they've chosen. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.11.97.69 (talk) 19:01, 14 September 2011 (UTC)
- Agreed. This should be a part of this article.--136.181.195.4 (talk) 17:39, 19 September 2011 (UTC)
There seems little mention of criticism regarding the show "Here Comes Honey Boo Boo", epecially the reasons for the show's cancellation. 2001:558:6016:39:E12E:6487:226B:87E5 (talk) 15:57, 18 May 2017 (UTC)
ranting
[edit]seems like this article was written by someone who's pissed at the changes in TLC. Although this article does seem to be biased, I agree with it completely. I used to watch TLC for science and technology... now, every time I turn ton the TLC channel, all I get is human relationship, etc... So yea, I agree completely with the article. Gotta agree with your assessment of the article. I'd go so far as to say it's non-neutral. Like you, I agree with the opinion it expresses -- only when I found myself nodding in agreement over and over did I realize that this article is not exactly 'encylopediac' in quality. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 67.180.28.53 (talk) 11:57, 19 June 2009 (UTC)
I don't necessarily think it's biased... it's just true. It's not like the writer said "I don't like X", he accurately portrayed the nonsense this channel has been going through lately. Yes, it makes TLC look bad, but it's hard to deny that TLC went from being a place for scientific, documentary-esque media to addiction shows and programs like "Little People, Big World". It's not like these are just a couple of time slots, their lineup is dominated by those shows. It's an obvious change. Jwaffe (talk) 01:26, 3 May 2010 (UTC)jwaffe
BBC
[edit]I took out the specific reference to the BBC as the example given ("Junkyard Wars") is a Channel 4 program. I had a quick look at the TLC web site, but I couldn't find any actual BBC shows listed there, with the possible exception of Brum. If anyone knows of any actual BBC material that ends up on TLC, feel free to add it back. --rbrwr
- TLC and all discovery networks have a well-known relationship with BBC. I'm not sure if they are owned by the same people or what, but it is certain that many BBC productions end up on discovery-owned networks. Many documentaries originate from the BBC, and some series are syndicated, adapted for, and some cases even cloned for discovery networks. Watch any discovery-owned station and you'll see many documentaries that at the end say BBC in the credits.
- Trading Spaces, arguably the flagship program of the network, and several others, are co-productions of the BBC and Banyan Productions.--The Monster 02:37, 29 January 2006 (UTC)
References
[edit]I have tagged this article as it does not cite several references, specifically pertaining to criticisms. I am unable to verify most of these criticisms, so I added the tag with hopes that other editors may be able to cite these claims. Ajwebb 21:58, 8 July 2006 (UTC)
This article is terrible. I've tagged it with {{POV}}, {{OR}}, and {{weasel}}, mostly pertaining to the criticism sections. Melchoir 03:27, 21 September 2006 (UTC)
- On the face of it, with the template tags at the top of the article, it was very difficult to determine what was at issue. Seeing the concerns here, I've moved the tags to the section that seems to be at issue. Agent 86 23:32, 10 October 2006 (UTC)
This article still only cites two references. Would somebody please find sources for the information? Also the phrase, "which many would argue are not educational at all" in response to TLC's current programming should be removed or reworded. TennysonXII (talk) 03:57, 12 January 2009 (UTC)
- No, it must remain, per WP:ADHOC —ᚹᚩᛞᛖᚾᚻᛖᛚᛗ (ᚷᛖᛋᛈᚱᛖᚳ) 22:12, 31 March 2009 (UTC)
